New Life in Christ: A Discipleship for Beginners - Lesson 1

Watch this short video to understand God's purpose & invitation for your life.

The Seed of New Life: Understanding the Gospel

I. The Design: Why You Are Here

Your life is not an accident. The sources emphasize that you were created by a God who loves you and desires a personal relationship with you.

  • Created for Love: God made you to be the object of His love. He chose you before the world was even created.
  • Created for Relationship: You were designed to enjoy God’s presence and to manage His creation.
  • The Result: Living in harmony with God's purpose brings peace, confidence, and strength.

II. The Disruption: The Problem of Sin

If we were created for a relationship with God, why do many feel distant from Him? The Bible identifies a universal problem called sin.

  • Definition of Sin: It is a natural desire to be "the boss" of our own lives and to ignore God’s principles.
  • The Consequence: Sin acts like a wall that cuts us off from God, leading to problems in our relationships and a sense of spiritual emptiness.
  • The Outcome: The "wages" or result of sin is spiritual death and eternal separation from God.

III. The Deliverance: Jesus, the Bridge

Because of His great love, God did not leave us in our broken state. He took the initiative to restore the relationship through Jesus Christ.

  • The Substitution: Jesus, being sinless, took the penalty for our sins upon himself by dying on the cross.
  • The Victory: He rose from the dead, proving His power over death and offering us a new life.
  • The Only Way: Jesus is the unique bridge between God and humanity. No amount of good works or self-improvement can bridge the gap; only faith in Jesus can.

IV. The Decision: Receiving the Gift

Salvation is a free gift, but like any gift, it must be accepted. This is where the seed of faith is planted in your heart. The sources outline several biblical steps to respond to the Gospel:

  1. Admit: Acknowledge that you have sinned and that you need God's forgiveness.
  2. Believe: Trust that Jesus died to pay for your sins and that He is alive today.
  3. Confess: Agree with God about your sin and declare Jesus as the Lord (Director) of your life.
  4. Repent: Turn away from your self-ruled life and turn toward God.
  5. Accept: Receive God's grace by faith, not by trying to earn it through your own efforts.

V. The Development: A New Creation

The moment you receive Christ, a transformation begins. You are no longer defined by your past but by your new identity in Him.

  • Judicial Forgiveness: God declares you "not guilty." Your sins—past, present, and future—are forgiven because of what Jesus did.
  • New Life: You become a "new creature." The old life passes away, and a new life begins, much like a seed breaking through the soil to reach for the light.
  • The Power to Grow: You are now indwelt by the Holy Spirit, who provides the power and guidance you need to live this new life.
